Celebrating Mother’s Day and Family with EvoBox

In this special Mother’s Day episode of The New Warehouse Podcast, Kevin chats with Lisa and Ty Evenson, the dynamic mother-son duo behind EvoBox. Based in South Carolina and Utah, EvoBox is a 3PL fulfillment provider that grew from a small family-run warehouse into a thriving business serving around 50 clients nationwide. What started as a side project evolved into a full-scale operation thanks to their commitment to trust, personalization, and operational excellence. In this episode, they explore the unique family dynamic that drives their business forward, how they’ve kept everything referral-based for over a decade, and what the future holds for their fulfillment operations.

From Side Hustle to Scalable Fulfillment

EvoBox’s origin story is rooted in hustle and heart. It began in a small Utah warehouse that doubled as a drugstore operation. When a friend asked to store watches there, Ty jumped into ShipStation and began fulfilling orders himself. Before long, other local startups asked for help, and EvoBox was born.

As Ty recalls, We started having other people reach out to us and be like, ‘Hey, you ship for Arvo watches, right?’” That one favor quickly grew into six clients in their first year, prompting the family to officially incorporate.

What makes EvoBox different is its family-first foundation. Lisa, the CEO, explains: “We’ve always said that our warehouse is just an extension of the companies that we ship for.” Their growth has come entirely from word-of-mouth—no marketing team, no debt—just relationships and results.

Balancing Business and Family with Boundaries and Trust

Running a business with family isn’t easy, but for Lisa and Ty, it works because of mutual respect and clearly defined boundaries. Ty is the CMO and self-described “jack-of-all-trades,” while Lisa oversees financial operations and client relationships. Together, they’ve developed a working rhythm that keeps their family ties intact.

Lisa admits, “Sometimes I get a little bit too internally emotional, because we worked so hard and there’s been so much sacrifice and I feel so deeply for the companies that we ship for.” In those moments, Ty becomes her grounding force: He’ll just be like, ‘Hey, look at this perspective. It’s only business.”

To keep work from bleeding into personal life, they’ve learned to turn off the business talk after hours. Ty shares, “For most of the last 11 years, it’s been really easy. As soon as I leave work, I turn my brain off from work.” Even on an eight-day international trip together, they barely discussed the business.

Tech, Transparency, and the Next Chapter

EvoBox recently transitioned to ShipHero to support the next phase of its growth. Ty managed the WMS switch himself and says the payoff has been worth it: “The client side of it just looked a lot better… our clients that are using it all love it.” They’ve also added PostHero, giving customers real-time data on fulfillment speed.

The company now handles everything from skateboards and supplements to apparel and cat litter, with a sweet spot in personalized DTC brands. Ty says their edge lies in flexibility: We have some clients that are only doing a few orders a day and others doing 5,000… we handle both just fine.”

Looking ahead, Lisa and Ty envision a future that includes continued growth, greater autonomy for their team, and a potential exit down the road. “Eventually, we want it to be perfectly self-sufficient,” Ty says. And Lisa adds, “I think we’re in a niche that would be really good for a larger fulfillment center to take and add to theirs.”
